This was a wonderful coming of age story about twin brothers, Marion and Shiva, who grow up during a time of turmoil in Ethiopia, raised by their adoptive parents who are physicians at a Mission Hospital in Addis Abbaba. I found Verghese's writing beautiful and compassionate. This is very much a character-driven novel; I was heart-broken to leave Ghosh, Hema, Shiva and Marion at the end of the book. Verghese has given us a story of humanity at its very best. I also appreciated the extensive bibilography, and look forward to reading more of the books that Verghese recommends.
